HWNT EDUCATION AND SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM©

 

Purpose:

The Hispanic Women’s Network of Texas (HWNT) developed an Education and a Scholarship Program to assist Latinas attain higher education.

 

Description:

HWNT provides Education Programs through the Chapters forLatinahigh school students, college students, and women returning to continue their education.  These Latinas will be provided scholarship opportunities and there are no fees associated with this program.

 

Requirements:

Requirements for Chapter Education Programs for all Latinas are to include the following components:

 

  1. College Preparation
  2. Hispanic History, Leadership, Culture, Politics, and Civism
  3. Writing Skills
  4. Assertiveness Training
  5. Life Skills (Health Awareness & Self-Improvement)

 

A model was adopted in 2008 by the state (Latinas In Progress©) forLatinahigh school students that should be used by each chapter that includes all these components.  In addition, HWNT in 2009 adopted the MANA Hermanitas® Program forLatinahigh school students. 

 

Mentorship:

Mentorship is provided toLatinahigh school students through MANA’s Hermanitas® Program.  Members also mentor college students and women returning to continue their education.

 

Measurement:

Each Chapter must provide statistics on their students.  Deadlines and measurement tools are provided by the state.

Latinas in Progress / UNITED HEALTH FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

As part of our efforts to reach out to Latina youth, HWNT has partnered with the United Health Foundation to offer scholarships to young women interested in pursing careers in healthcare.
