HAPPY NEW YEAR!
HWNT had an interesting 2009 with some good and some bad
events.
We
lost our Chair Elect, Barbie Hernandez, in early December
2009 after a brief but valiant battle with Leukemia. We will
all miss her and acknowledge her long dedication to HWNT. We
send our deepest sympathy to her family and will post the
information for a memorial account set up by her family.
Other members of our organization have had illness and death
in their families and we want to include them in our
thoughts and prayers.
We
have created a position for an Executive Director on a part
time basis. We are growing so fast and so much is happening
that we are in need of the services of an Executive Director
to help our organization. We are in the process of hiring
Lupe Morin to fill that position for this first year. More
later!
We
have a full State Executive Board with the election In
October at our annual meeting of :
Hope Rangel- Development Chair (San Antonio)
Almira Flores-Historian (Corpus Christi)
And
the appointments for 2010 to fill unexpired terms :
Mary Ann Kellam- Chair Elect (Dallas)
Alicia Maldonado- Secretary (Austin)
Our
chapter membership continues to grow. We have interest from
El Paso, Lubbock, Kingsville, Abilene, and Waco to establish
a chapter in their city. Laredo is inactive at this time, but we will
continue to work with them to help them get started again.
Our Membership Chair will be traveling this year to visit
these areas and help them activate their chapters. The Chair
also plans to visit as many of our chapters as possible this
year between her own travels. I know many chapters are
having their annual retreats and meetings in January and the
Board would welcome any ideas and suggestion you have to
make this a better organization
The
Education Committee is working to establish a State
Education & Scholarship Program in all of our chapters
under the State guidelines. We are writing proposals for
scholarship funds and want to be able to share these funds
with all the chapters who have established a program.
Our
State Conference will be October 8-9, 2010 in Fort Worth.
The State Board members are responsible for the planning
and production of that meeting and we will be calling on
everyone for help. Please make sure your State
Representative is communicating with you about the planning.
We
had an annual Retreat and Board Meeting in Seguin on January
15,16,2010, we reviewed and revised our 2009 Strategic Plan ,
look for calls from our committee chairs who are working on
the plan. We will revisit the plan at every quarterly
meeting to make sure we stay on track.
Communication is still high on our priority list on the plan
and you should be hearing from the State Chair on a regular
basis to keep everyone informed. This will be done through
our Memberclicks program.
It
promises to be an exciting year with a lot of changes and
growth onto to the national stage. Come join us on our
adventure of the 2010 journey!
