Phyllis Griggs
The Hispanic Women's Network presents Phyllis Griggs
The Hispanic Women's Network will have as their guest speaker Phyllis
Griggs at their regular meeting set for Wednesday, February 13, 2008,
at The McAllen Chamber of Commerce at 12:00 (noon).
Phyllis Griggs moved to McAllen,
Texas in 1972. A single mom with a 7 year
old daughter, in a new city, was a
new adventure! After purchasing the first Mister Donut Shop in 1973, life
became donuts and equipment repairs and many long hours. The years rolled on
and in 1983 she became the SBA's Business Person of the Year for the Stare of
Texas, with ten donut shops at that juncture, she aspired to do more-and be
more.
Charities loomed in her future and she joined every board
and every cause-to become president of many, and a leader in all.
Ultimately, she run for and won the coveted spot on the commission (first
woman ever) where she remained for fourteen year. Her topic will be her "Becoming an Author"
she has written a book the title is Memories, Musings and Moments.
This is a book of fond memories, loving tributes
and general life in the Valley. These articles were published in The Monitor
over an extended period of many years ago. Many of the stories are
poignant and worth a tear or two, while others make you laugh out loud. There
is something about a story that we can fit ourselves into-to make our very own,
to remember, to reminisce and to laugh at our memories! This is a love
story to her life over these past year
The Hispanic Women's Network invites anyone who is interested in
