Dallas Chapter Green Initiative

BEYOND THE HOUR

HWNT Dallas members have been active participants of the global campaign known as Earth Hour which showcases what can and is being done all over the world to combat climate change.

The campaign is a worldwide initiative showing how individuals, communities, businesses and governments can address the threat of global warming if we resolve to work on it together.

On March 26, 2011, hundreds of millions of people around the world, in thousands of cities, at hundreds of landmarks, on all seven continents, switched off their lights for one hour to display a universal commitment to protect the one thing that unites us all--the planet.

Now that the lights are back on, let’s work together to create a better future.  Think about what you can change in your daily life that will benefit the planet.  Earth Hour demonstrates the power of individuals, communities, businesses and governments to unite and make a difference. Our actions can add up.

Walk the walk and shop the talk. Consumer demand can be a powerful force. Encourage companies to switch to more sustainable production practices and sell more environmentally-friendly products. Start by thinking about what you buy and where you buy it. Do so by looking for labels that identify  food and other consumer goods produced with minimal or no negative impact on the environment or society. And if you can't see a label, ask the store's staff  about where the product came from and how it was made.
