INSPIRING LATINOS

During the November TWU session students were asked to respond to the following question: Which Latina/o inspires you? Below are some of the responses from students from Seagoville High School.

"The Latina that inspires me the most is my dance teacher Lisa Moya King. She was my Modern dance teacher at Woodrow Wilson High School (which I attended my freshman through junior year). She is from Houston, Texas and visits her family frequently there."
-Deisy Gonzalez, senior

"Jaime Herrera Beutler is position as the State Representative in the United States Congress, for the Republican Party. Her first bill was passed in March 27, 2008; it was a bipartisan proposal to give tax relief toward business owners enlisted in the military. She was born in Glendale, California and raised in Southwest Washington."
-Zaira Cruz, 16

"Maria Celeste is a Puerto Rican journalist, actress and the host and producer of Spanish
language news program Al Rojo Vivo Con Maria Celeste. This woman is who inspires
me."

The Latinas In Progress(c) Education Seminar Series are free seminars designed to encourage Latina High School students to stay in school and continue on to college. In addition to providing students with college and financial aid information, the seminars build leadership skills, self-esteem and cultural awareness. The students are exposed to positive role models and insight into various careers through career panels composed of HWNT members and student panels composed of Latina students attending local colleges and universities.
